NDC Status 

The Republic of Moldova submitted its revised NDC in March 2020. 

EU

The revision of the NDC was supported by the European Union (EU) through the EU4Climate initiative. Funded by the EU and implemented by UNDP, EU4Climate supports six countries in the Eastern Partnership implement the Paris Agreement and improve climate policies and legislation. In Moldova, EU4Climate is now providing support with preparing the Updated Low Emissions Development Strategy until 2030, as the NDC Implementation Plan.

Key highlights from the NDC
  • The Republic of Moldova raised ambition with a conditional emissions reduction target of 88% by 2030 compared to 1990 levels.
  • The country also committed to an unconditional emissions reduction target of 70% by 2030 compared to 1990 levels.
  • The NDC was revised through extensive consultations with national and local government, the private sector, academia, and civil society including youth and women’s groups. 
  • The pledges in the NDC pay special attention to cross-cutting issues and elaborates on investment strategies for adaptation measures.
