New course shows young climate leaders how to advocate for change

A new online course aims to raise awareness about climate change and guides young climate leaders on how to take action in their communities

The UN Development Programme (UNDP), in partnership with Eco House Global, has launched the Youth for Climate Action course. The course is an online educational programme available in English and Spanish on the Learning for Nature platform.

The free and self-paced course aims to equip young people with the core concepts of climate change and help them explore ways to take action and advocate for change within their communities.

Children and young people are expected to experience up to seven times more extreme weather events than their grandparents throughout their lifetimes. Though they represent half of the global population, they remain often excluded from climate discussions and meaningful decision-making. The online course aims to provide key climate resources and act as an exchange platform for youth in an easily accessible way, creating a space for knowledge sharing and connection among young people across the globe.

Building on the experience of UNDP, Eco House Global and other strategic partners in implementing trainings in Latin America and the Caribbean, this course draws from best practices in the region. Designed by youth for youth, the online course covers the essential skills needed to participate meaningfully in designing and implementing national and international climate policy and action.

Those enrolled in the course can expect to learn about the basic science behind climate change, the main pathways for climate action, instruments of climate governance and avenues for meaningful participation by civil society.

Originally launched in Spanish, with over 4,000 people already registered, the course is now also available in English, further expanding the reach of the programme.
