Oct 27, New York - The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is launching #ClimateCounts, a new campaign that aims to tell the story of climate change through numbers and inspire action through facts.
#ClimateCounts will feature 30 climate facts, each with an eye-catching visual, designed to make climate change feel personal and urgent.
The campaign is part of UNDP's efforts to raise awareness and mobilize communities ahead of the COP30 Climate Conference, taking place in Belém, Brazil, on November 10 – 21. This year also marks the 10th anniversary of the Paris Agreement - a significant milestone for climate action.
“As the world heads toward COP30 and countries submit new pledges under the Paris Agreement, the message is clear: we have no time to lose,” said Cassie Flynn, UNDP’s Global Director of Climate Change. “This is the moment to turn plans into progress. #ClimateCounts shines a spotlight on 30 powerful facts showing that bold climate action can drive prosperity, resilience, and justice – proving that what’s good for the planet is good for people.”
With the rise of climate-related disinformation and misinformation, #ClimateCounts also aims to build climate literacy and empower individuals and communities to take and demand more ambitious climate action. Citizens' engagement is crucial as countries prepare to submit and implement their updated national climate plans, or Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), with new targets under the Paris Agreement.
To promote the campaign, UNDP Goodwill Ambassadors and youth climate champions will help share these facts globally. The campaign will initially be available in English, French, Spanish, and Portuguese, with more languages being added later down the line.
The #ClimateCounts campaign builds on UNDP’s extensive climate action work and evidence-based science. Through the Climate Promise, the UN’s largest climate portfolio, UNDP supports more than 140 countries with over US$2.45 billion in grant financing. This work draws on UNDP’s expertise in adaptation, mitigation, carbon markets, climate and forests, climate risk and security, and climate strategies and policy.
