Module 1 - Carbon Markets 101

What this module covers

Carbon markets are mechanisms that put a price on greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, creating economic incentives to reduce or remove them. By valuing each tonne of avoided or sequestered carbon, they help channel finance toward climate action and sustainable development. When designed with integrity, carbon markets enable countries, businesses and communities to meet their climate goals more efficiently while driving investment in low-carbon and resilient solutions.

Module 1 is divided into three parts:

Part 1 - Introduction

Introduction to carbon markets provides a general overview of carbon markets. It explores the key actors and their functions in compliance and voluntary markets, as well as the different types of carbon projects that generate emission reductions. The target audience is those who are relatively new to carbon markets.

Part 2 - High integrity

High integrity in carbon markets provides an overview of what high integrity means in the context of carbon markets, with a focus on social and environmental integrity. The target audience is those who are relatively new to carbon markets.

Part 3 - Article 6.2 of the Paris Agreement

Article 6.2 of the Paris Agreement is a comprehensive training designed for government teams responsible for developing and authorizing cooperative approaches under Article 6.2 of the Paris Agreement.
