NDC Status

Jordan submitted its third NDC in September 2025.

Key highlights from the NDC
  • Jordan's latest NDC marks the beginning of a 2050 net-zero trajectory for the country, integrating ambitious climate goals into its’ national strategies. The mitigation efforts in Jordan’s third NDC include exploring new technologies such as green hydrogen and energy storage, along with the implementation of advanced building standards and improved industrial efficiency.
  • The  NDC also places a strong emphasis on climate adaptation and resilience, to be achieved through localized and integrated urban strategies. Key areas of focus include enhancing water security, boosting agricultural resilience, and implementing urban heat mitigation measures. The plan will also integrate climate strategies within the water and health sectors.
  • Jordan's third NDC adopts a special, economy-wide approach by not only linking climate actions across all major sectors but also by deeply embedding them as a central engine of the nation's Economic Modernization Vision (2023–2033), ensuring that climate action is directly tied to growth, investment, and job creation. The Central Bank of Jordan (CBJ) will play a key role in this by aligning the financial system with a low-carbon development pathway. The CBJ will scale up green credit lines, promote the issuance of green bonds and sukuk, and integrate climate-risk assessments into banking supervision.
  • Jordan's third NDC embeds stakeholder engagement as a permanent and comprehensive feature, extending beyond governmental bodies to include youth, women, the private sector, civil society, and refugee communities at national, sectoral, and sub-national levels.
