The Republic of Moldova submitted its third NDC in May 2025.
Key highlights from the NDC
- Moldova's third NDC aims to reduce GHG emissions by 71 percent below 1990 levels by 2030 and 75 percent by 2035
- The NDC highlights several cross-cutting priorities, including gender equality, social inclusion, just transition, biodiversity conservation, and alignment with the SDGs.
- Moldova’s NDC focuses on gender-responsive approaches. It seeks to enhance women’s access to resources, participation in decision-making, and contributions to resilience strategies, particularly in sectors like health, agriculture, and water resources.
- The NDC also emphasizes the importance of a fair transition to a low-carbon economy. The NDC proposes creating green jobs in renewable energy and sustainable agriculture, along with education and retraining programs.
- Moldova’s NDC features plans to expand forests by 145,000 hectares by 2032 to enhance carbon sequestration and biodiversity conservation. These efforts align with the National Forest Extension and Rehabilitation Program (2023–2032) and the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan.
- Moldova’s third NDC was prepared under the leadership of the Ministry of Environment, with the support of USAID, NDC Partnership, GIZ, UNDP, and ILO Office in the Republic of Moldova.
NAP Status
Moldova submitted its National Adaptation Plan (NAP) in 2024, supported by UNDP and GCF Readiness funding. Now, the country has a NAP Phase 2 project under implementation.
