Egypt submitted a second revision of its NDC in June 2023.
Key highlights from the NDC
- Egypt committed to reduce emissions by 37% in the electricity sector (80 Mt CO2e), 65% in the oil and gas sector (1.7 Mt CO2e), and 7% in the transportation sector (9 Mt CO2e) by 2030 compared to business-as-usual, conditional on external support.
- The country plans to install additional renewable energy capacities that will generate 42% of electricity by 2035.
- Egypt also enhanced the adaptation component in the revised NDC by setting more policy actions and measures across key sectors.
